How this policy works
- When it activates
- Emergency Notifications upon confirmation of a significant emergency or dangerous situation on campus involving an immediate threat to student and employee health and safety. Timely Warnings for Clery Act-reportable crimes considered a serious or continuing threat; that longer sentence is summarized here and not all of it is quoted.
- Who decides
- Campus Security Department has primary Emergency Notification issuance responsibility, including the VP of Operations. Campus Security Director has primary Timely Warning responsibility.
- Timeliness standard
- Without delay for Emergency Notifications, considering community safety. Timely Warnings as soon as pertinent information is available.
- Emergency notification vs. timely warning
- The ASR keeps Emergency Notifications (immediate on-campus threat) distinct from Timely Warnings (Clery-reportable crime that is a serious or continuing threat).
- Scope & limits
- Handbook encourages students to register phone numbers and e-mail addresses for Alert Sense. ASR emails go to all LPTC email addresses.
