The incident occurred around 8:15 p.m. near the west entrance of Washington Square Park at West Washington Place in Manhattan.\n \nThe victims, two NYU students, were exiting the park when an unknown individual approached the two students. The unknown subject threatened to harm the students physically and demanded money. Fearing for their safety, one of the students gave the unknown individual money. The unknown individual took the money and retreated into the park.\n\nThe victims did not sustain any injuries. The NYPD has been notified.\nDescription of Suspect: The suspect is described as masculine, presenting with a dark complexion.\nIf you have additional information about this incident, please contact NYU Campus Safety at (212) 998-2222.\n\nPlease Remember These Safety Tips:\n\nBe aware of your surroundings, especially when walking alone. \nWalk in groups whenever you can. There is always safety in numbers.\nUsing a smartphone or other electronic devices, especially with earbuds, can be distracting and may make you a vulnerable target for an assailant. \nTrust your instincts.
